Personal Project: Christmas Cards
Social media helps us stay connected with our friends, but we lose a bit of intimacy when we only communicate with each other digitally. I wanted to use Christmas cards as medium to personally connect to the people on my social media - close friends, long lost acquaintances, and even strangers.
I uploaded the picture above to my Instagram and Facebook calling for Christmas Card requests from anyone.
I started sketching out a design that I thought best represented me. (I'm always bringing people out to eat dumplings.)
After rendering and coloring my sketch into illustrator, I printed them out on hard stock paper.
In the end I got over 30 Christmas card requests.
Results:
I sent over 30 Christmas cards during the holidays to 4 different countries - USA, South Korea, United Kingdom, Russia. Lots of old friends who I haven't kept in touch reached out, and even a person in the UK I've never met requested a card.
